Harry Potter studio trip gives English students a unique insight
The English department at Cowley Academy arranged a fantastic trip for a lucky group of Year 8 students to visit ‘The Making of Harry Potter’ at the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London.
This enrichment opportunity was organised with the aim of aims to bring learning to life as students are currently studying ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ in English lessons. The experience also helped to inspire students creativity and enhance their appreciation of storytelling.
It gave our students a unique insight to explore how the Harry Potter story is created beyond the page, by looking at everything from theatre production and set design to special effects and film-making.
Seeing these elements up close helped them better understand how characters and scenes are developed, and how lighting, sound and staging all work together to create atmosphere. It also opened their eyes to the many different careers involved in the creative industries.
During the visit, students walked through well-known sets, looked at original props and costumes, and found out how both practical and digital effects are used to create magical moments.
Mrs Deane, Head of English said “The trip was a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile experience, supporting our classroom work and helping students connect more deeply with the world of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Coming face-to-face with Aragog in the Forbidden Forest was definitely a memorable moment for everyone!”
