Cowley compete in Lincolnshire 7’s Boys Rugby Tournament

An eager team of rugby players travelled to Market Rasen to compete in the Lincolnshire 7’s Boys Rugby Tournament, which involved 16 schools from across the county.

We took part in the Year 9 competition and our team involved players from both Years 8 and 9 plus we also had five students playing their first ever competitive rugby matches. It was also the first chance for the team to wear a new kit which was designed by ex-student Hamish Waine.

With a new squad of players they performed brilliantly and fought hard in every game playing against grammar schools who play rugby competitively ever week. We proudly finished in 11th place out of 16 schools and beat Carre’s Grammar School and only narrowly lost to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and King Edward VI Grammar School.

Mr James Brader, Head of PE said “The team showed excellent commitment and resilience along with great teamwork. Dylan Westbrook and Goncalo Da Silva led the team displaying excellent leadership throughout the tournament and congratulations to Robert Tillen who was voted as Cowley’s Player of the Tournament.”
