Trust ranked with top performing schools in Lincolnshire

Progress 8 scores rank Trust with top performing schools in Lincolnshire

The growing success of the four schools that are part of South Lincolnshire Academies Trust has been recognised when the Department for Education (DfE) published the provisional performance data for the latest ‘Progress 8 Scores’ on 19 October 2023.

The national Progress 8 scores is how the DfE benchmark the progress students make from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4. These scores provide useful indicators for parents/carers when researching secondary schools as it shows whether a school are good at a spread of subjects and that they help students obtain higher GCSE grades.

Spalding Academy and Bourne Academy are now ranked as the ‘top two’ non-selective schools in Lincolnshire and are both performing ‘well above average’, which means students are achieving over half a grade higher in each qualification on average, compared to similar students across the country.

There are just 10 schools in Lincolnshire who are performing ‘well above average’ and the Trust schools are now outperforming the majority of grammar schools as they are ranked as the third (Spalding Academy +0.67) and fourth (Bourne Academy +0.63) top ranked schools in the whole of Lincolnshire. These scores will also place Spalding Academy and Bourne Academy in the top 5% of all schools in the country.

Giles Academy joined the Multi Academy Trust in September 2020, who were more recently joined by Cowley Academy in September 2022. Since joining the Trust, both schools have seen a rapid transformation of their progress and are on target to emulate the success of Spalding and Bourne. Giles Academy and Cowley Academy now have a Progress 8 score of +0.08 and are both performing above the Lincolnshire average of +0.02 and the national average of -0.03. This places them in the top 25 of all schools in Lincolnshire.

Mrs Lucy Conley, Chief Executive Officer at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust said “It is tremendous recognition that Spalding Academy is the top performing school in Spalding, Bourne Academy is the top performing school in Bourne and that Giles Academy and Cowley Academy are both the top performing schools in the Boston area, outperforming both non-selective and grammar schools. This success demonstrates that our Trust model for school improvement works as the schools continue to go from strength to strength.”
