Remembrance observed at school and in the local community
On Remembrance Sunday, our Head Students along with Mrs Kilby, Head of School represented Cowley Academy by taking part in the Donington Remembrance Service and placing a poppy wreath at the memorial service.
Mrs Kilby, Head of School said “We are very proud of the students who were invited to attend represented the school as they did so with great pride and were fantastic role models.”
Leading up to Remembrance Day, students and staff were involved in a variety of ways from selling poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion to incorporating Remembrance into subject lessons. In the school hall, there was a stunning poppy display that featured hundreds of colourful poppies that were individually decorated by students.
On Remembrance Day on 11th November at 11am, the whole school stopped during breaktime for a one-minute silence to mark the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the month, which was impeccably observed as we remembered the people who have died in wars around the world.
Each year, we also give students that are part of a RAF, Army or Police Cadets, St John Ambulance or Scouts and Guides the opportunity to wear their uniform throughout the school day.
