Year 7 boys represent school in 4v4 Basketball Competition
Our Year 7 boys had a great experience when Cowley Academy had two teams participate in South Lincolnshire Plate 4v4 Basketball Competition. This event was the third in a series of tournaments giving Year 7 students their first opportunity to play competitive Basketball matches against other schools.
This annual competition was held at Spalding Grammar School, where eight teams from schools all across the region competed in a highly competitive tournament.
The tournament was a round-robin format where all eight teams played each other once then a league table determined who would progress. The top four teams then progressed to the semi-finals and then a knock-out game to earn a place in the final. Cowley Team 1 secured a place in the semi-finals and Cowley Team 2 narrowly missed out after finishing fifth overall.
In the semi-finals, Cowley Team 1 faced University Academy Holbeach where it was an incredibly close match as the whole team showed the fantastic progress they had made as the tournament progressed, but just lost out reaching the final by only one basket.
Mr Brader, Teacher of PE said “Our students displayed determination, teamwork and resilience against the best players in the area. Well done to everyone involved and they will take that experience forward into the Year 8 District Basketball League next year.”
