Our local MP, Sir John Hayes visited Cowley Academy on Friday last week and spent the afternoon meeting students and staff at the school.
The Year 11 Head Students had an amazing opportunity to speak to the MP and were able to ask him any questions they want as well as the MP finding out about our student’s aspirations for the future, which included going to Sixth Form, College, University and the Army.
The students were keen to enthuse about the sport, music and drama extra-curricular activities at Cowley Academy as they have all participated and represented the school at some point and experienced the fantastic opportunities available.
There were some really topical and relevant questions asked to the MP, such as his views on the changes to Inheritance Tax and whether there should be a Mayor of Lincolnshire in 2025 as part of the devolution deal.
It was also eye-opening for the students to get a glimpse into how diverse a job it is being an MP and how they split their time working at Parliament and helping their local constituents.
During his visit, Sir John Hayes met with Mrs Lucy Conley, Chief Executive Officer and Mrs Kath Kilby, Head of School to find out the progress Cowley Academy has made since joining the Trust and the opportunities we have been giving our students to continue their studies at the SLAT Sixth Form.
The MP has always been extremely supportive of both Cowley Academy and Spalding Academy, which are part of his continuency and we are grateful he took the time to visit the school and meet our students.
