PGL netball weekend was full of adrenalin activities and games

Last term, Miss Carter, Miss Earth and Miss Pratt arranged a packed weekend of netball and adventure activities for 29 of our dedicated netball players at PGL in Boreatton Park near Shrewsbury.

As part of this fun activity-based weekend, there was a netball tournament where we had three teams (Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10/11) compete against other schools from across the country. This provided a great opportunity for students to benefit from teambuilding as they could bond on and off the court.

The netball tournament consisted of six matches over two days where our teams were aiming to get enough points to qualify for the semi-finals and finals. Whilst we did not reach the semi-finals, our Year 9 deservedly earnt bragging rights in the Trust as they beat both Bourne Academy and Spalding Academy.

When our students were not busy on the netball courts, they could then participate in a variety of adrenalin filled activities, These included abseiling, a zip line, the giant swing (with lots of screaming) as well as climbing, archery and rifle shooting. The highlight was the silent disco with hundreds of teenagers dancing (and singing very loudly to different genres of music) in the dark with glowing headphones!

A special mention goes to Autumn-Rose Payne in Year 11 who managed to get all the students dancing on the first night. Not to be outdone, Miss Earth and Miss Pratt were keen to show off their ‘questionable’ dancing skills at the silent disco!

At the end of the tournament, there was an awards ceremony where the students were fortunate to receive a talk from Anya Williams who is currently playing on the Manchester Thunder team and was part of the Roses Academy at just age 17.

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Players Player Award: Gracie-May Tew (Year 8), Ellie Hilton (Year 9) and Autumn-Rose Payne (Year 11)
  • Coaches Player Award: Brooke Chambers (Year 8), Teya Dyke (Year 9) and Jorja Reid (Year 11)

It was a fantastic weekend for our students who never let the weather dampen their spirits and behaved impeccably making it a pleasure for our staff to supervise the trip.
